All File Renamer is a free and powerful utility capable of adding, deleting, and replacing any character or string of characters in the names and extensions of your files and folders. It includes specific features that will help you rename and organize your MP3 files using the information stored in their ID3 tags. The changes applied are immediate, visible, and permanent.

Everything you need to define and perform your renaming tasks can be found in the program’s one-window interface. This is both convenient and confusing, depending on how familiar you are with file renaming tools. The panels that deal with the selection of the files to be renamed take up the largest section of the interface, together with the panels that show the ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags, leaving merely the top right-hand side of the interface for all the settings and rename options available. Crowded and complex as it looks, it just requires some time and practice to get used to it.

It may take some more time to master the file selection process. The left panel will show you a standard tree structure of all your folders and subfolders, while the central panel will show you the files and subfolders inside the selected folder. Here is where it gets a bit tricky – you can tell the program to select (and show) all the files in that folder, or specific types or groups of files, such as “Text files” (TXT only), “HTML files”, and various groups of multimedia files, namely “images”, “audio files”, and “video files”. The problem here is that each of these groups support very few of the many image, audio, and video formats that we normally use. For instance, “audio files” refer only to MP3, WAV, and Ogg files, while the “video files” group includes AVI, MPEG, MOV, and FLV. The same happens with the images section, where only BMP, JPEG, GIF, and PNG files will be selected. I particularly find this selection method quite limiting - it is simply not possible to select only the FLV or the JPG files inside a folder, unless you isolate them beforehand in a specific folder.

All File Renamer gives a special treatment to MP3 files and their ID3 tags. ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags can be easily copied, modified, and interchanged using the two big panels provided, and MP3 files can be automatically renamed by the program using the information embedded in their ID3 tags. This information may include track number, title, artist, year, and album name, all in your preferred order. Of course, you can add to these specific features all those available for the other types of files, so that you can also add, delete, replace, cut, and expand the existing names with specific strings or characters.

Finally, an important caveat – no backup files, no restore points are available. Whatever changes your make in your file names are immediate and permanent. That is how powerful All File Renamer is, and you have been warned.
